It’s been a long road but Katy and her troop earned their Girl Scout Silver Awards and had their ceremony (along with bridging to seniors) tonight. For the Silver Award the girls have to complete a leadership journey (if you don’t know what that is, it’s too hard to explain) and a 50-hour take action project that addresses a root issue. For Katy’s project she collected gently used t-shirts and made them into reusable tote bags for the local food bank. They use 500 bags every day and nearly all of them are plastic so they are constantly having to come up with bags. Katy’s 104 bags are a drop in the ocean but the food bank was very glad to get them.
The other girls did a project where the collected used sports jerseys for young people in Honduras but I don’t really know much about that project. And tonight we were able to have a ceremony and cake to give them their pins and have a little celebration.

The Silver pin is the one top, the Bronze she earned in Juniors (she did a 20-hour project for the animal shelter). Next in line is the Gold Award and that’s the biggie. Katy is hoping to earn it, too.

And with that the girls leave behind Cadettes and are now Seniors. On to new and exciting adventures!
